The Protege is a fictional character in Bram Stoker's Dracula. He is Count Dracula's private secretary, keeper of the Castle and confidant to the Count. Although he seems like a simple person, the Protege has a deep and cruel nature. He often tries to undermine the power of the Count, but he also helps the Count become stronger and more powerful.
The film begins with the story of the creation of a new vampire, Van Helsing (Wes Bentley). The vampire is created by an unnatural means and tries to destroy the human race through vampirism. The Van Helsing vampire then consumes the blood of young Mary (Anjelica Lupo), a noble woman whom he abducts and later seduces.
The Protege later returns to Dracula's castle to assist him in ending the conflict between the two forces. He is one of the few characters in the film who has survived a transformation. In the online adaptation of the novel, he is given a new personality and has various motives for helping the Count.
One of the most interesting aspects of The Protege is his relationship with the Count. Most of the literature about the Count states that he is an ardent and cruel supporter of the old aristocratic order, and that he hates everyone who does not belong to it. This is completely contrary to the character's attitude in the film adaptation. In fact, he is the only character in the film who shows a clear and utter desire to help the Count. In some ways, this aspect of the novel is probably taken from the original vampire, Vampires, who almost hunted down and murdered the last pure-blooded vampire in Europe. The Protege is no match for the Count in this aspect.
The Protege's motivations are also very contradictory to his nature. On one hand, he wants to help the Count, but on the other he is eager to kill all humans, vampires or not. The other characters in the film, including the novel's main character, also have conflicting views about the situation. It is interesting to note how the film portrays the conflict between the Count and the Protege. It is obvious that the film has borrowed some ideas from the novel to create its own version of the conflict.
The novel has been widely praised since its publication. Many people claim that it is one of the best vampire stories ever written. However, it is also well known that many of its themes and ideas are taken from other works of literature. That is why it is not surprising that many people claim that the movie is nothing like the novel. However, if you are a fan of the novel, and you have watched the movie, you might feel differently. Either way, this is one of the best vampire stories ever to be made into a motion picture.
