"Resort to Love" is the latest release from Italian movie director Mauro Restelli. Although I haven't read the book, I can tell you that it will feature an Italian romantic comedy with a little bit of mysticism thrown in. It's been receiving raves ever since it was released last summer. It stars Dabney Coleman, Laura Linnea, and Michael Parks. Here's my review of the movie, and where I saw it...
The movie is based on a true story of a man (Mauro Restelli) who goes on vacation to a luxurious, all-inclusive resort in the mountains of Genoa, Italy. When he gets there, he realizes that everything around him is just not right. While enjoying his time there, he starts having unusual thoughts about his relationship with another woman. Finally, things come to a head when he meets someone from his past - a woman from the opposite side of his family. There is a lot of conflict going on throughout the movie, which is the point I really enjoyed.
What I enjoyed most about the movie was the romantic buildup leading up to the climax of the movie. The romantic relationship in the first half of the film really kept me interested in what was going on between Mauro and his new girlfriend. The chemistry between Coleman and Linnea was also effective in making the movie believable. The music in the background was also quite good and fits the romantic nature of the characters. The movie just felt real and achieved what it was trying to achieve.
Unfortunately, the movie was not very successful. Perhaps it was due to the timing of the movie. It wasn't released until late summer, giving the audience only a small window of time to enjoy the movie and prepare themselves for what is to come. However, it is still available and if anyone wants to see it, they can always go watch online or rent it from a video store in New York City. Hopefully it gets a release on DVD in the near future.
One interesting thing that I noticed about this movie is that the writers were not trying to portray an affectionate relationship with Belle Mare. They focused more on the romance between their characters. That might make the movie a bit more melodramatic, but I think it adds a more realistic element to the story. I also thought the movie lacked a little bit of originality compared to other animated Beauty films.
Overall, I found the movie to be well worth watching. It was charming and romantic and had a great storyline. It is definitely one of the must-see movies of the year! I'm looking forward to seeing the next installment of Beauty and the Beast, hopefully sooner than later!
