Barb and Star go on a fabulous journey across America as they search for love in all of its many forms. An intense love story blooms between them as they travel across this beautiful American land on a romantic train called the Ace. With an original score by the late jazz musician, trumpeter and composer Mel Bay and an original screenplay written by Richard Curtis (based on his life) Barb and Star utilize all of their skills to bring their tale to life on the big screen in a witty and heartfelt performance. The film was directed by none other than Clint Eastwood himself and also starred Michael Caine. This movie just about caps the release of the decade for independent films; it has just about been considered a modern classic and is certain to garner more popularity in years to come.
The movie is an absolute wild comedy as befits its title, and is a joy to watch with absolutely hilarious comedy sequences. Overall the storyline and acting are above average, with the occasional oddball interplay adding that extra zip to any scene. The online crowd seemed to like the movie, with many commenting that they simply had to see it, and that they wanted to see more of it.
I have always personally found Joanna Stayton's 'Love Actually' a pleasant surprise, although it did lack the originality of Barb and Star Go to Vista Delight. In fact it is my opinion that the film simply lacks the punch of the two earlier classics, but then again I have always been a fan of Joanna Stayton and think she did an excellent job casting in the lead role. I especially appreciated her ability to hold onto her own head while playing the headstrong character of Victoria. She made every scene she was in seem real and added much-needed humor to an otherwise maudlin story. There was little romance in the movie, and the romance between Barb and Star was rather tepid at best, but it was still a fun movie to watch. The final scene, which I would be giving a seven just based on the way the sequence ended, had me looking forward to the next release of 'Love Actually'.
Star and Barb go to Vista Delight, which was directed by Steven Spielberg and starred Michael Caine as George, and Kate Capshaw as Barb. The movie follows the everyday life of George as he works and goes to work along with Barb, setting up a bar in their neighborhood. While the characters from the series to appear in this movie, it does not carry the same amount of fanfare or feeling as those from the previous outings. It is perhaps a better and less annoying follow-up to the series, and I for one would have liked it better. This is not a bad thing, however, as the cast does an amazing job.
It is the story and performances which really drive the story along, with the witty banter leading the way, and the overall humor and humanity present throughout the movie lending it an overall charm. Michael Caine once again proves himself an incredible actor, and is brought to life by his director, giving life to this character like he never has before. Barb is played by Kate Capshaw, who manages to bring the same sense of humor with which she has played other minor characters in the past. In fact, I would even go as far as to say that she steals the show, simply because she brings such great emotion to each scene. Michael Caine is great in any role he's in, and he shines here as Barb and George go to Vista Delight.
Though it was my first time seeing this particular movie, I know that I will always remember the fantastic premise, the great acting, and the overall atmosphere of the film. If you have never seen this movie, then go out and watch it. You won't regret it, and you might just laugh so hard you'll burst into song! Enjoyment aside, I can guarantee that anyone who sees this movie will find it to be one of the best films they have ever seen.
