Don't Listen is the first supernatural movie I've seen. I'm not going to go into detail about the plot, or how and why it's different than the other supernatural movies you're probably used to. Instead, I'll just mention that it stars Nicholas Cage as the father of two children, Michael and Lauren. They're separated by a massive barrier of metal that protects the city they live in from the outside world. Once the barrier is down, a family of vampires decide to make their home in the old house.
What I love about this movie is the way it uses two languages, Spanish and English. Throughout the movie, you can hear Lauren speaking in English, but at certain points in the film, you can also hear her speak in Spanish. That helps add a little more realism to the characters and makes for an engaging watching experience. Also, at one point, Don't Listen features a scene set in a dentist's chair, where Cage's character attempts to speak to a long-haired patient, but only succeeds in asking him if he likes his job.
In addition to having two languages on the screen at once, Don't Listen also has an interesting plot, and an even better acting performance by Nicholas Cage. I especially liked his role as the pharmacist with the robotic voice, which makes him a likeable character. He sells some drugs, tries to cure the boy disease, and then later joins the other vampires in the giant research facility to find out what the problem is with all the boys.
Don't Listen features some of the best monster horror movie sequences I've ever seen. The creature making its way through the house, the clearing of the yard where everyone was killed, and finally the laboratory were all very memorable. I especially like the climax, where the creature rears it's ugly head and tries to kill Cage's character. It is one of the best monster movie endings you'll ever see and makes Don't Listen a definite must-see movie...The Shape. I'm not much of a horror movie buff, so The Shape might not be my favourite movie out there, but I'd rank it right up there with the better ones. It was a lot of fun.
Another great Don't Listen movie is Spanish Inquisitions, which is the third of Nic Cage's vampire movies. Although not as scary as the previous two films, Spanish Inquisitions still had its moments, and stars Cage again along with Michael Gambon as Quincey Morris. I would say that both of these guys are past their prime, but they still manage to keep their roles throughout the movie believable. They play similar roles, and are good in it, but I feel like each actor was a little different in their performances, and that contributes to why I felt that Spanish Inquisitions was a little lesser than the other two.
Finally, I have to give props to Don't Listen, the other horror movie I saw this week...It Follows, or rather it was prequels to Don't Listen. If you're a fan of the horror genre then you'll love this movie, which stars Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Aniston. It Follows takes place in a haunted house and follows the relationship between three teenage girls who move into the house. It Follows is also a great, creepy and suspenseful movie. Plus I'm a big fan of Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Aniston, so it's easy to see why this movie came in at number four on this list.
