There are wonderful times for lovers of action movies. We are not only living a decade that has left us the best film of the 21st century, and one of the best in history, in its genre - We speak, obviously, of 'Mad Max: Fury on the road'; We are also enjoying a golden age for industries such as Indonesia, which has given us jewelry such as both parts of 'The Raid' or that savage titled 'The Night Comes for Us'.
Focusing on the US territory, there is no doubt that the great representative of the recent martial arts cinema was a 'John Wick', leaving fans speechless with his careful formal treatment, its fantastic choreographies, and with the violent carnage headed by an impeccable Keanu Reeves in his work as a killing machine.
Three years later, the sequel raised to the power what was seen in the 2014 film, increasing its virtues and identity stamps to levels that many of us thought were insurmountable. And we speak in the past, because John Wick: Chapter 3: Parabellum, has managed to overcome any kind of expectation by giving us the ultimate orgy of action, blood, gunpowder, and broken bones.
Looking back, it is very difficult to find a trilogy that, regardless of its gender, manages to evolve with an upward trend in terms of quality throughout its deliveries. John Wick 3 may be the exception to this unwritten rule; because behind a continuous aspect to be noted as the biggest "defect" of the film, the "most difficult" of a saga whose defining elements continue to progress in a constant crescendo is hidden.
The first of these components, how could it be otherwise, is their sense of action and spectacle. Again with Chad Stahelski in the director's seat, Parabellum takes a step further than seen in his predecessors at the stroke of self-consciousness and a set-pieces design that combines the sophistication of its calculated choreography and a brown spirit and almost parodic style that, although it may sound strange, brings the tape closer to the slasher's ground.
It is no coincidence that during the introductory sequence, and like it happened in John Wick 2, Stahelski stops to honor Master Buster Keaton; because, in its madness, John Wick 3 is even more twinned with the best silent slapstick, offering a delicious cocktail of actors playing the impossible stunts and narrative debauchery that, in addition, leave us some of the most amazing action sequences we have seen in a feature film of this cut.
Similarly, Parabellum dedicates a good part of its more than two hours of footage to expand the rich mythology raised in the original and extended in the first continuation. The universe of hired assassins gains weight and density by presenting new internal organizations, high positions and details about their convoluted dynamics while giving special treatment to the past of the protagonist and his allies.
The great golden clasp to all this is hidden behind a superb visual packaging that continues the wake of 'John Wick 2', moving away from the greens and ochres that dominated the franchise's debut to flood the screen of saturated colors in an impeccable exercise and ultra-stylized photography that, in addition, leaves us a master class on the use of practical lights and reflections. It is awesome.
John Wick: Chapter 3: Parabellum knows perfectly the strengths that have had fans begging for a new dose of death and destruction, minimizing risks, for the moment, we can all only air a single question, and we hope to get an answer soon: when will be the fourth premiere released?
